Year Four: English – Persuasive Speeches

In our recent English unit on persuasion, we based our learning on ‘The King Who Banned The Dark’ by Emily Haworth-Booth in order to write our own speeches encouraging our audience to ban the dark. We began the unit by considering our own opinions about the subject in question, the dark, and creating a desired atmosphere using exciting verb and adverb choices. Then, we looked at how we can use prepositions to provide a picture in our readers’ minds. These lessons allowed us to build up a toolkit of persuasive techniques to use in our final pieces – our very own speeches.
